circuits
Circuit symbols
-
-
voltmeter: an instrument for measuring electric potential in volts.voltmeters are always in parallel and you have to measure with them across the components you want to know the voltage of
-
-
switch:. An electrical switch serves the purpose of controlling the flow of electrical current within a circuit.
-
resistor: a device that has electrical resistance and that is used in an electric circuit for protection, operation, or current control.
ammeters are an instrument for measuring electric current in amps. they are always in series circuits and are next to the component you want to know the current of.

these are usually metals such as silver, gold, copper ,steel and sea water.

-
such as rubber, glass , oil , diamond and dry wood
Series circuits:
a series circuit is a circuit where all the components are in the same loop. In a series circuit the current flows through only one loop. The current is the same at all points.
parallel circuits:
a parallel circuit is has more than one loop- the components are on different branches.
in a parallel circuit, the current is divided in to two. this means that the current flowing through each component is different.
voltage:
voltage is the energy per unit charge ( electron)
the voltage symbol is V . voltage is measured with a voltmeter and it's units are volts.
current:
current is the flow of electrons around a circuit. Electrons are particles that orbit the nucleus. the symbol for current is I and is measured in amps. we use an ammeter to measure the current flowing through circuits.
static electricity:
static electricity occurs when electrons are transferred from one place to another by friction. the object which loses electrons becomes positively charged and the object that gains the electrons becomes negatively charged.
