1. The Plant kingdom.
Are as diverse as their environments, but they all share these characteristics:
Autotrophic nutrition (combine inorganic compounds with Sun energy to produce their own organic compounds by photosynthesis).
Can't move freely, they usually live anchored or fixed to the soil.
Eukaryotic plant cells, cells have cell wall and chloroplasts.
-
Multicellular, but their structural complexity varies greatly.
Without seeds
Mosses and liverworts
-
-
-
No true roots, stems or leaves. Instead, they have rhizoids, phyllodes and cauloid stems.
-
Ferns
True roots, stems and leaves.
The stem, or rhizome, grows underground.

With seeds
Gymnosperms
-
Conifers are the largest group (trees like pines, firs and cypresses).
When cones open, seeds fall to the ground.
-
General characteristics:
Plants in this group vary considerably, from cereals, like wheat, to giant trees like sequoias.
-
Are also called spermatophytes, and the best known group.
