End of 1921: 200,000 members. It appealed to: middle classes, professional white-collar workers, small business owners (fearing a socialist revolution); middle and upper class landowners, wealthy farmers and peasants (fearing socialist demands for land reforms); industrialists (opposed to unions and socialism), some peasants and workers (some wanted to work during strikes), young people (tired of liberalism). Reasons for support: patriotism, hatred of socialism, weak liberal government, appeal of Mussolini.
