How is Asia Being Transformed
Neocolonialism is the use of economic, political, cultural, or other pressures to control or influence other countries, especially former dependencies.
Bangladesh is close to sea level so it floods regularly because it is only 30 feet above sea level
Bangladesh copes with the floods by having some main flood control plans Bangladesh has includes boats to rescue people, food storage systems for both the livestock and the people, as well as requesting aids from other countries when a flood arrives.
How does a monsoon happen?
The land is warmer than the sea (up tp 20℃), so the air on the land rises, leaving a gap which is filled by moist air coming off the sea. This is forced over mountains, condensing and causing heavy rain.
Effects of Monsoons/Tropical storms
PPP :
Prediction
Using satellites and weather predictions to predict when the storm will arrive. This will give people time to prepare for the storm
Protection
Prevention
Education could help teach children understand the dangers of a storm occurring
death
Loss of crops and farming
destruction of homes
China tried to contain the population by having a 1 child limit
This lead to an ageing workforce and they removed this rule
Tahr: How has it adapted?
In the winter the tahr has a dense, reddish to dark brown woolly coat with a thick undercoat, which keeps it warm. Their hooves have a flexible, rubbery core that allows it to grip smooth rocks, while a hard, sharp rim can lodge into small footholds.
the snow leopard has adapted by having a thick tail that is 3 feet long.its paw keep it from getting cold in the snow
HIC= High Income Countries and China is an example of this
LIC = Low Income Countries and Bangladesh is an example of this
NIC = Newly Industrialised country and India is an example of this
Natural causes of flooding
One natural cause of flooding is underwater earthquakes which form tsunamis that then flood coastal countries like Bangladesh
Another natural cause of flooding is heavy rainfall which if prolonged can flood an ill prepared country
Human causes of flooding
One human cause of flooding is climate change which humans cause by things like mass producing goods and deforestation which produce greenhouse gases which heat the environment, melting the ice caps and raising sea level flooding countries close to sea level
biomes
Biomes are a large scale ecosystem with interaction between biotic and abiotic features
Monsoons form from April to September and usually bring extreme winds and Torrential rainfall
Preparation for flooding
In high flooding risk countries people pepare for floods by building their houses on stilts to raise them above the water.
Another way to prepare for floods is build a house out of materials that will not be damaged by flooding to ensure that the house survives the flood
population
The current population of Asia is 4,717,314,718 as of Monday, June 6, 2022, based on the latest United Nations estimates. Asia population is equivalent to 59.76% of the total world population. Asia ranks number 1 among regions of the world
A developed country normally has a low birth rate of about 1 or 2 whearas a developing country usually has an extremely high birth rate of about 5 or 6.
Some more developed countries with a high birth rate implement birth policies. An example of this is China's 1 child policy when the birth rate was extremely high and the country was overpopulated. This can help lower birth rate and stabalise population.
The three Ps of disaster management are preparation, prediction and prevention
Reasons for China's economic growth
Labour supply
China has a massive population of 1.4 billion people so it needs a lot of jobs for people to make a living and keep a good economy
China created lots of jobs by doing the belt and road because they required millions of workers to build railways around Asia for it and it is still going on so it is still providing jobs.
Poverty reduction
The Chinese government put a minimum wage in to mke sure people have enough money to buy things like essentials, properties and pay tax which boosts the economy because it brings more money in.
Large percentage of female workers
Female workers boosts the economy because it makes more workers because in some other countries their beliefs are that females stay home and do housework and look after children. But female workers makes sure that everyone is working therefore boosting the economy.
Natural resources
China has many natural resources so it usually does not have to invest too much into resources to build things like railways or buildings. This boosts the economy because it provides more jobs and homes for extremely cheap
Low wages
China's workers usually have quite low wages which makes more business profits go to the government and boost the economy
china's artificial islands
China is making islands to expand their territory
America is concerned about this as they think they island might be holding missiles, bombs and other military weapons as it shows hangers on these islands with military planes it also has radar domes
the belt and road
The Belt and Road initiative is an immensely ambitious development campaign through which China wants to boost trade and stimulate economic growth across Asia and beyond. It hopes to do so by building massive amounts of infrastructure connecting it to countries around the globe. There are plans for pipelines and a port in Pakistan, bridges with Bangladesh and railways to Russia – all with the aim of creating what China calls a ‘modern silk road’ trading route that Beijing believes will kick start ‘a new era of globalisation’. It will connect about 65 per cent of the world’s population directly to China.
But why Belt and Road? Bewilderingly, the ‘road’ is not actually a road but rather a sea route linking China’s Southern coast to east Africa and the Mediterranean. The ‘belt’ is a series of overland corridors connecting China with Europe, via Central Asia and the Middle East.
Why is the Belt and Road initiative so important to China? In many ways it is an economic plan designed to open up and create new markets for Chinese goods and technology. Some countries, such as India, suspect the project is simply a smokescreen [something used to hide behind] that China is using to seize strategic control of the Indian Ocean.
Weaknesses of Asia
Population
Asia has almost half of the world's population living there. This makes it hard for many people to find work because there isn't enough jobs for how many people there is. This weakens Asian countrie's economies because there is many people in poverty
Natural hazards
Asia has many natural hazards like volcanoes which could destroy large, populated areas which would weaken the economy
Political unrest
There is many protests in Asia about environmental issues as well as other political issues which is bad because people will not be making a good use of temselves therefore weakening the economy
Inequality
There is some Asian countries that have serious inequality issues and don't let women work or treat other races negatively which is bad because it lessens work and possibly population if the people being discriminated against leave the country
eco cities
Eco cities are cities that are fully eco friendly and don't make a contribution to global warming.
An example of a city that was going to be built was Dongtan. The aims of Dongtan are the have a fully eco friendly city that will not affect global warming. The will have a population of 500,000 by 2050. They will have public transport near every house the use of cars is minimal.
The advantages of Dongtan are that they will have easy access to public transport, and there will be no air pollution
