How bad is it?
According to the United Nations conference on trade and development, Afghanistan’s GDP growth as of 2020 was -6.48%. Their GDP per capita expressed as an annual percentage is -4.61%, a 6.1% decrease from the previous year (2019) according to the world bank. They are not meeting the target.
Will it get worse?
It seems that the situation will get worse, as according to CNN “Afghanistan's economic crisis has loomed for years; the result of poverty, conflict and drought. But after the Taliban seized power in August 2021, the US and its allies froze about $7 billion of the country's foreign reserves and cut off international funding. The move crippled an economy already heavily dependent on aid.”
