A Tragic Hero
a good person that has bad stuff happen to them
must die after they figure out their fate
Good Against Evil
Good and evil people have always existed in society
The duo of a hero and a villain
Hamartia
A character's bad flaws leads to them making bad actions
Tragic Waste
Both the hero and villain die and the conflict feels pointless in the end
Conflict
internal conflict
the internal struggles experienced by the character in their own mind
external conflict
the physical danger a character faces
The Supernatural
Ghosts as spirit guides for advice to the protagonist e.g. Hamlet is haunted by his dead father
Catharsis
the feelings the audience experiences for the hero and the antagonist
if the hero suffers, the audience feels sympathy, but if the villain suffers, the audience feels it is justified and deserved
Lack of poetic justice
when both the good and evil characters get good endings (unfairness of life)
the idea that even bad people in the world get good stuff happen to them
Fate
is fate governed by the universe/God/ the stars and out of our control OR is it own decisions that influence our fate?
