'The phantom slowly, gravely, silently approached'
the spirit doesn't speak and is not as gentle as the other spirits, because there os no hope left in Scrooge's future since his mind is clouded and cannot be chnaged by kindness
past = has blinding light for Scrooge's youth and to illuminate his mistakes which he should learn from
present = has light to guide and coax Scrooge's change and how the Cratchit's kindess can be shown
future = has no light -> darkness represents Scrooge's fate

'Oh cold, cold, rigid, dreadful Death'
personifies death as something to be afraid of to emphasise to Scrooge that after he dies, Scrooge will be punished, so he is right to fear death
death should be feared only if you have sinned, which was a christian belief, meaning Scrooge's fear is justified but of his own making

'I am not the man I was'

we can finally see how Scrooge has changed his capitalist view and wants to help tohers, through his own realisation

'reeked with crime, with filth, and misery
emphasises the poor areas through this listing to disgust the reader and Scroge so they can understand the hardships of poverty

'A worthy place'
This is repeated to emphasise how Scrooge deserves a lonely death because of how he has treated othe rpeople
