Lipids
-
-
Lipids may be regarded as Organic Substances relatively Insoluble in Water, Soluble in Organic Solvents (Alcohol, Ether, etc.), actually or potentially related to fatty acids and utilized by the Living Cells
-
Lipidomics is the study of Lipids, it include chemistry, functions, metabolism, pathology and various aspects.
Classification of Lipids
-
-
Derived Lipids
These are the derivatives obtained on the hydrolsis of Group 1 and Group 2 Lipids which possess the characteristic of Lipids
These include glycerols and other alcohols, fatty acids, mono and diacylglycerols, lipids(fat), soluble vitamins, steriod hormones, hydrocarbons and ketone bodies
Miscellaneous Lipids
These include a Large number of compounds possessing the characteristics of lipids eg. Carotenoids Hydrocarbon such as Pentacosane (bees wax), terpene
Neutral Lipids
These Lipids are uncharged. These include mono, di and triacylglycerols, cholestrol and Cholesteryl esters
