digestove and urinary system Jocelyn Escandon period 6th
layers of the GI tract
mucosa- mucous membrane that surronds the lumen of the tube
submucosa-nourishes the surrounding layes of the canel
serous layer - protects underlaying tissues and secretes serous fluid to reduce fricton between organs
muscularis-propels food through canel
dissroders of the digestive and urinary sytem
cholecystitis- inflammation of agll bladder
Urinary disease
inflammatory bowel disease - chronic complex intestinal condition that causes inflammation in digestive tract
bladder cancer - one or more tumors in badder
urinary tract infection - an abdormal growth of bactria in urinary tract
major functions of the digestive system
mouth -receives food and begins mechanical digestion by chewing
stomach - jshaped muscular organ in upper left abdominal quadrant
esophagus - mascular tube leading from pharynx to stomach
pancreas - both endorcie and exocrine gland - produce juice that acids digest
live - located in the upper right quadrant od the abdominal cavity
glabladder - pear shaped sac on the inferior surface of the liver
small intestine - long tubular organ , runs from the stomach to the beginning of the large intestine
large intestine - open to outisde of the body as the anus
location od digestion and absorption of each macromolecule
carbohydrates - during digestion starches and sugars are broken down both mechanically and chemically . into single units.
lipids- begins in the mouth and continues in stomach and ends in the small intestine
protiens - breaking the complex molecule first into peptides , each having a certian numer of animo acids and second into individual animo acids
nucleic acids 0 - digested in the small intestine with the help of both pancreatic enyemes and prudeced by the small intestine
digestive enzeymes
enzymes - secerated bt epithelial cells of the mucosa and embedded in their mictovilli
peptids - break down dipeptides to animo acids
salivary amylase - begins carbohdrayes digestion by breaking down disaccharides
pepsin - begins protien digetion
pancreatic aylase - breaks down starch into disaccharides
pancreatic lipase - breaks down fats into fatty acids and glycerol
major functions of the urinary system
digestion - mechancial and chemical breakdown of foods and absorption of nutrients
digestive system - carries out the process of digestion
mechanical digestion - breaks down large nutrient moleciles into smaller chemicals , breaks chemical bonds
major otgans of the urinary system
kidenys - filters the blood
ureters - transports urine from kifneys to bladder
urinary bladder - stores urine
urethra - conveys urine to the outisde of the body
