Does not explain phobias with biological preparedness aspect, this is innate to increase survival so is not learnt.
Flooding can be effective for those who stick with it as it is relatively fast and is more cost effective. The money spent on flooding is more proportionate to the amount of time and how intense it is.
Flooding can be very traumatic for patients and emotionally they may feel worse off because of its intensity and disruption to Fight or Flight response. They may not be able to complete the therapy session and thus further reinforce their phobia.

Treatment: Flooding
Involves overwhelming the patients senses and nervous system with the situation that causes anxiety to show it poses no threat or harm to them. It is not unethical as they give informed consent.
Usually only taught how to relax their muscles, the individual is exposed to the highest level of anxiety with the phobic stimulus in a repeated and intense way.
Usually, this occurs in one long continuous session. Without the option for avoidance behaviour, the individual quickly learns the phobic stimulus is harmless through extinction. A learned response is extinguished when the CS (e.g. dog) is present without the UCS (e.g. being bitten) so it no longer produces the CR (fear)
