Network Interventions(Valente)
A framework for effective decision making at each step in the intervention development
Makes planning explicit and transparent
Facilitates collaborative partners in a multidisciplinary group
Four intervention types
Individuals
the use of opion leaders
segmentation
Segmentation arpproaches identify groups of people to change at the same time
Focus on core members
Induction
induction interventions timulate or force peer-topeer interaction to create cascades in information/behavefarion diffusion
Alternation
three different
tactics might be considered
adding/deliting links
Adding/deliting nodes
rewiring existing links
A taxonomy of behaviour change methods: an Intervention
Mapping approach
Six steps for intervention mapping:
1: conduct a needs assement(problem statement
2: create matrices of change objectives by combinin behaviours with behavioural deteminats to identift which beliefs should be targeted by teh intervention
3: select theory-based intervention methods that match the detminants into which the identified beliefs aggegate
twee levels
the lowest level, containing the individual thoughts, emotions, automatic associations, orelements of a process; and an aggregate level, where similar and related thoughts, emotions, automatic association silled;
an aggregate level, where similar and related thoughts, emotions, auto-
matic associations, and process elements exist aggregated in so-called ‘determinants’
4:ntegrate the practical applications into an organised programme;
5: plan for adoption, implementation, and sustainability of the programme in real-life contexts by identifying programme users and supporters and determining what their needs are and how these should be fulfilled;
6: generate an
evaluation plan to conduct effect and process evaluations to measure programme effectiveness.
IM originated in response to questions by students how to use theory in intervention development.
Defenition of intervention
A combination of program elements or strategies designed to produce behavior changes or improve situations among individuals, groups or an entire population
