Romanian orpahns study
Aim: to investigate the effects of early institutionalisation and deprivation on later life development.

Physical, cognitive and emotional development was assessed at 4, 6, 11 and 15 years old and found poor development in all areas.

However effects are reversible with correct care, and those adopted earlier recovered better than those adopted later.
Conclusion: early maternal deprivation before/within critical period can lead to long lasting effects on development.
Effects: Poor parenting, deprivation dwarfism and attachment disorder
Evaluation:
