Desertification - Coggle Diagram
Desertification
Why is it a problem?
Desertification is a major global issue because if affects people all around who rely on ecosystems in the dry lands. Not only that but 50 million people could be displaced within the next 10 years because of desertification. It's causing people to loose their homes, money, food and water sources and even their life therefore creating bigger problems for people like, economic stability.
Decreases in stock, jobs, food water

What causes it?
Climate change
Warmer climates
Warmer climates makes water dry quicker,
Plant, trees and crops cant grow. Without sources of food theres no way to get it. So people have to leave and find food and water.

Where do we find it?
Continents affected by desertification: All continents in the world are affected except for Antarctica. Some countries specifically effected are Ethiopia, Australia, Egypt, Chad, Mali, Niger, China, Mongolia
What is?
Desertification is when a civilisation in a desert gets abandoned. The place used to be plentiful but because of water drying , soil becoming unusable they have to move to a different area. . It's a type of land degradation

Reducing desertification
Educate People about desertification
If we educate more people about this dire problem eventually people will want to help. If villagers know that what they are doing is wrong they will want to help and start executing solutions to the problem. This education would focus on the problem at hand then evolve into how we can solve them and put into motion the current solution suggestions. This is a low costing idea that can start to feed into the solution. After this we can start planting trees.

Having more of a tree population means less work for people getting wood supplies and protection for the people and the environment.
By placing green walls throughout towns vulnerable to desertification, the trees can provide shade to crops, livestock and humans.
It might take a lot of work planting the trees, but the work will be worth all the time and effort put into it.
Encourage other energy sources (E.g wind and solar)
While educating people about desertification, they will understand what cutting down trees does to the environment. By encouraging people to switch to wind and solar energy, it helps stop the need for fuel wood and the need to cut multiple trees down. Although it is an effective solution, the switch to solar and wind can be very expensive and costly. But if people want to stop harming the environment and causing desertification they should be ready to make the change.
