When Cooper is bored/scared in the Spooky house, and he reaches for his phone to entertain him while scared. But his phone is not there.
In the scene where Cooper is approaching the access point he comes to this door at the top of the stairs and starts convincing himself something is going to jump out him (his mum).
When the mushroom is put into his head there are repeated closeups and shots of Cooper looking nervous to show that he is unsure about this procedure and experiences a fear for the unknown
The montage of when Cooper is traveling taking photos of him in touristy places
When Cooper's mum is calling, and it comes up with message options that he can use to send back to her.
When Sonia comes into the Spooky house saying that he is in danger and Cooper thinks she's part of the game, but then he feels her and she is real.
Making their relationships more impersonal, Cooper is missing out in real life relationships while also always on his phone.
When Cooper was locked into the access point room the mushroom had fed through he’s brain and he had began losing his memory as the mushroom took over. The mushroom was developed by the video game company and inserted into Coopers head.
When Sonya entered and the fight broke out, when she stabbed him he felt the pain of it after previously being told that this technology was harmless and couldn’t physically hurt him.
Finally at the end they couldn’t save him from his death as the technology that was connected to his brain was connected to his phone. Coopers death could have been blamed on the game developers and their unsafe procedures but also on Cooper for not listening to them when they said to turn off his phone.
Showing that the technology of him being on his phone all the time is taking away from Cooper living in the moment and in real life.
The technologies ability to entertain him with games as well as capture and share his experiences
This shows that he is dependent on his phone for technology and entertainment when he is scared in the house.
In this scene we didn’t know who to trust and Katie had lost control over the technology therefore harming Cooper.
They couldn’t do/didn’t try to save cooper from the affects of losing control of the technology so they discarded him like a pawn in their game.
At that point no one was in control of the technology and could have saved cooper.
He is freaked out because she is physically real and so he is freaked out and doesn't know what is going on.
This drives him to become very hesitant in entering the room.
