- - - - By the 17th century considerable communication networks linked Constantinople and London. King James's Archbishop of Canterbury, George Abbot began a correspondence with the Patriarch Cyril Lukaris. Lukaris wrote a letter in reply to Abbot in which he praised both Abbot and King James's desire to unite Christendom against the Ottomans. Greek Orthodox was primitivist, more right than Catholics but were quite similar in practices apart from the absence of papal authority.
    - - James I’s poem titled ‘Lepanto’ which was a short epic poem commemorating the defeat of the Ottoman navy in 1571 by a coalition of Catholic states known as the Holy League. The Catholics were appeased by this due to the fact that James was completely supporting of the Catholic forces. He supports the war with his blessing and the power instilled in him by God as King and therefore proves his toleration of Catholics.
