. Different curricular approaches
Tyler
DIFFERENCES
Tyler's model is the strongest model for curriculum development.
It consists of four steps
Determine the purposes
Identify the experiences
Organize the experiences
Evaluate the purposes
He is regarded as the prototype par excellence of curriculum development in the scientific approach.
He says the objectives must be specific and then in precise instructions, then the different learning experiences are chosen, organized, implemented, and then it comes to evaluation.
Dewey
DIFFERENCES
His educational principles proposed learning through activities of various kinds rather than through established curricular content and were opposed to authoritarian methods.
The "experimental method" of his pedagogy is based on the education of individual dexterity, initiative and acquisition of scientific knowledge.
The task of the teacher is really that of being a teacher, not a master or "authority".
Learning through experience
He firmly believed that one could learn by doing something one did not understand.
Each child should have his or her own standard to be assessed.
SIMILARITIES
Dewey says that each child should have his or her own standard to be assessed as for Tyler considers the needs of the learner to be the very basis around which the curriculum should be designed, which should be as individualistic as possible.
Both supported the idea that it is the teacher who responds to the needs of the student and, in turn, delivers all the acquired data to the school management for review and modification, if necessary.
Both authors believe that curricula should be designed according to the needs and interests of students in order to achieve good learning.
Both say that the learner should be studied in depth and the learner's learning should be observed through experiences inside and outside the classroom, and it is the classroom that facilitates the learning environment.
