PISA tests - worldwide organisation for economic co-operation and development - schools from one country can observe what other countries education system is doing to put them higher on the leader board and adapt their education system e.g. teaching strategies

schools are ranked based on science maths and reading in the TIMMS tests - the uk in 2015 ranked 21st for reading and 27th for maths

Features of globalisation - Technology Development: new technologies have made it easier to connect over long distances (country to country) its created a time-space compression - Economic Changes: economic activity now takes place on a global scal, Political changes, cultural changes and migration.
GLOBALISATION AND EDUCATION =
- increased competition for jobs meaning schools have to adapt curriculum to meet new needs e.g. computer science.
- Increased competition between schools, higher ranking schools, pupils fight for the best schools and unis.
- Global ICT companies such as Apple and Google creating online resources and curriculums.
- Global ranking used to compare and contrast systems and raise standards.
- increased multiculturalism in schools and decline of the ethnocentric curriculum.
- increased risk of safeguarding issues e.g. teachers are now trained on signs of terrorist groups.
Marxist views on globalisation = provides more educational opportunities to the wealthy; Spring - global corporations are setting the educational agenda and creating a digital divide, it also disempowers teachers
Neo-liberalists - home believes that globalisation within the education system means that the state and government can have less influence on schools and they become more indeprendent

privatisation
privatisation in education - changes the internal processes of a school to run more like a business - setting targets, performance related pay and league tables
privatisation of education - opening aspects of education to private businesses e.g. training staff, school finance and management, supply teachers.
privatisation means schools does not follow the national curriculum- privatisation means moving functions previously owned by the government now go to the private sector.
