Child Protection Policy

Scope
:
Policy applies to staff/ volunteers/ managers/ students and visitors.
Rationale
To Identify and support students facing circumstances of abuse.
To protect students of any form of abuse.
To promptly report incidents of abuse.
To define duties of principal and staff regarding child abuse.

Roles and Responsibilities
To safeguard and promote the welfare of all students
This commitment is equally applicable and enforceable to all staff
School counsellor and administrators should always be informed promptly of any incident.
Principal:
a. To publish child protection policy.
b. To comply with provisions of this policy.
c. Ensure that preventative procedures are in place and fully understood by all concerned.
d. Ensure priority emphasis on taking action when abuse is suspected.
e. Ensure a safe and anonymous environment for reporting incidents.
f. Provide and record training sessions for student protection.
Safeguarding lead
:
a. Play a key role in ensuring all students are supported.
b. Ensure all staff are aware of safeguarding responsibilities (support of Principal and Vice Principal);
c. Have appropriate training related to safeguarding;
d. Ensure all entire school community can contact them.
All school staff:
a. Report any suspected abuse and/ or neglect immediately;
b. Be subjected to appropriate background checks;
c. Supervise students during school hours;
d. Contact school counsellor/ social worker or safeguard lead in suspected abuse;
e. Follow procedures when concerned about child protection issues.
Parents / Legal Guardians
:
a. Cooperate with school administration and staff.
b. Attend school parent meetings;
c. Communicate with staff any concerns related to child.
Policy details:
Purpose:
Protect students from abuse and neglect.
Guardian:
School Principal and staff (during school hours).
Authorised and mandated by ADEK to report all cases of suspected abuse/ neglect.
Students:
Equal rights for protection.

Training and Support:
All staff and volunteers will be provided with basic safeguarding training annually.
Safeguarding Lead to have relevant skills and knowledge to safeguard children effectively.
New staff to be trained before staff can have unsupervised contact with students.
Student to receive support in case of any suspected or verified abuse.
Reporting Procedures:
a. In case of suspected abuse of student, staff should inform Safeguard Lead A.S.A.P.
Dealing with disclosure:
a. Staff should be clear that confidentiality cannot be promised, if it relates to abuse.

Dealing with allegations against staff or volunteers:
Should always be investigated by the principal in coordination with Safeguarding Lead (unless criminal activity).
Criminal act: Reported to authorities.
Where suspected safeguarding lead as well as HR manager should be informed within 24 hours.
ADEK to be informed.
Record keeping and Confidentiality:
a. Child protection records should be stored in a safe filing system.
Accessible only by the Safeguarding Lead and Principal.
b. All records should be clearly labelled and filed.
c. Child protection records to be separate from general education file with a mark made in file to refer to.
d. Child protection file to be started as soon as any concerns are noted.
e. Staff have a written account of any concerns relating to welfare and wellbeing of a child.
f. Any information removed needs to be disclosed.
g. Any information regarding child protection issues is confidential.
h. Information to be passed to appropriate persons only.
i. School staff strictly prohibited from discussing any cases regarding child safety.
