Reflection of Light: Spherical Mirrors
Concave Mirror
Images formed by a concave mirror are real due to the actual intersection of rays
Rules:
A ray of light that comes in parallel goes through the focal point
A ray of light that hits the pole comes out at the same angle
A ray of light that hits the focal point will come out parallel
Examples:
Torches, car lights, dentists
Formulae
1/u + 1/v = 1/f
1/ a/b = b/a
M = v/u
Convex Mirror
Rules:
A ray of light that comes in parallel appears as if it's coming through the focus
A ray of light that hits the pole comes out at the same angle
A ray of light that appears as if going through C will be reflected along same line
Formulae
1/u + 1/v = -1/f
Examples:
Supermarkets, driving mirrors
Experiment Q
Be able to illustrate how images are formed by concave, convex or plane mirrors
Graphs:
1/v on y-axis and 1/u on x-axis
