Political Impact

The Korean War accelerated the conclusion of a peace agreement between the U.S. and Japan, the warming of West Germany's relations with other western countries, creation of military and political blocs ANZUS (1951) and SEATO (1954).

Totalled between three and four million during the three years of war (1950-1953)
480,000 Americans saw action, with 590.000 South Koreans, and smaller forces from Britain, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, Turkey, France and other nations. Over 36,000 Americans lost their lives, along with 673,000 South Koreans.
North Korea fell into poverty and could not keep up with South Korea's economic pace.
The war was disastrous for all of Korea, destroying most of its industry.
The relationship between cold war
"The Korean War was a proxy war for the Cold War"
Backed by the United Nations, the West — Britain and the United States, supported South Korea, while communist China and the Soviet Union backed North Korea. The Korean War ended three years later, with millions of casualties.
The war cost more than 2 million lives and devastated South Korea's economy for two decades. It also had repercussions for a wider conflict, the Cold War. The Soviet Union and the United States of America, the main players in that political, economic, military and ideological battle, intervened in the Korean War.
Global Impact
It was the first time that the two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union, had fought a 'proxy war ' in a third country. The proxy war or 'limited war ' strategy would be a feature of other Cold War conflicts.
