Project Governance
Project Governance
The alignment of project objectives with the strategy of the larger organisation by the project sponsor and project team. A project's governance is defined by and is required to fit within the larger context of the programme or organisation sponsoring it, but is separate from organisational governance.
(Project Management Institute, 2013, p.553)
Project management concerns operational control at project level. The role of project management is to manage the project according to the structures and processes which have been defined by the project’s governance.
Governance Models
In small and medium projects, bilateral and trilateral models are suitable to define the relationship between the client and the contractor in addition to the designer in the trilateral model.
Bilateral and trilateral models are not suitable for major projects because they are extremely limiting
Institutional arrangements are very useful for major projects because they provide legitimacy to projects and shape the roles of the parties involved
