League of Nations
Why was it created?
Set up in 1920 by Woodrow Wilson as part of his 14 points that were created in the Treaty of Versailles.

Even though the League was created by America, they refused to join it

League was called so that they could come to an agreement without any fighting breaking out. The League spoke to both countries before coming to the conclusion that Finland should have the islands.

Both of the countries were very close to going bankrupt, riots in streets and trouble for neighbouring countries
The league organised money and helped with running them for a short period of time until the countries were strong enough again
The problem was resolved and they eventually were strong enough to be left without the League - Success
Greece and Bulgaria

Borders between Greece and Bulgaria was changed and tensions started rising, Greece invaded Bulgaria but Bulgaria was too poor to push them away.
The league investigated the situation and ordered the two countries to stop fighting they agreed and peace was resolved.

Area of land that was wanted by both Lithuania and Poland. It was given to Lithuania after the war but it was mainly populated by Polish people and troops. Fighing broke out over it.

The Corfu Crisis

Italians killed in Greece and the two countries started fighting. The Italian leader demanded money from Greece. Greece denys and Corfu gets bombed and fighing breaks out.
League wanted to help but were scared of Italy's Power and orderd greece to pay so that the fighing would stop.

American economy crashed and millions of people went in poverty and most people went unemployed. People turned to extremeism and things got out of control.

The council
4 permanent members (Britain , France , Italy and Japan

Veto - Anyone in the council could override a decision and the law wouldn't be passed even if it was unanimously passed by the assembly

Manchurian Crisis

Manchuria had the resources such as coal and iron and had the land that Japan needed to grow their economy. It seemed perfect as it had a railway,army and was very close to them. Japan also thought that they could fix the Chinese government.
The League were reluctant to react to Japans actions as they felt that they were entitled to Manchuria as they already had economic rights there. It was also was too far for the League .
