Assignment 2: Paper synopsis
Intro
The path of human technological advancements was the only possible path for humans to become technologically advanced, Additionally this oath was only possible due to the specific traits of human beings.
The ability to start fires started humanity's journey of technological advancements. There are certain criteria only humans satisfy.
Fire-making species must be highly intelligent
The specie must be mobile and possess high visual acuity
A creature capable of creating fire must be an aerobic air-breathing species
Humans possess the anatomy required to master fire.
Opposable thumbs and the dexterity of the human hands,
Hands & Arms
Starting a fire using sticks and friction requires dexterity and persistence
Greek physician Galen wrote about the importance of the human hand. He hailed it as the greatest evolutionary tool of any animal.
Chimps and gorillas possess hands that come close to the human hand; however, they are not as adapted to fine motor skills.
Scientists have trained bonobos to make tools. However, they are not very good at it.
Their thumbs are too small which causes them to be clumsy and messy.
The length of the human arm allows for object manipulation away from the body.
This is advantageous in fire-making as the flame is away from the body
The length of the arms also allows for clear observation of the tasks using our eyes.
Human size
Any organism smaller than 3.5 feet would have considerable difficulty when creating fire.
A smaller organism could not create the necessary kinetic forces to create a fire.
An organism the size of an ant could not make a fire.
A stable fire must be larger than the size of an ant and the flame would kill the ant.
Conclusion
Nature is uniquely designed for humans to advance technologically as we have.
Body size and plan
Hands, arms, bipedal, dexterity in the fingers and height.
Intellect
Capability to gather wood, and the persistence to continue untllfire is made
Level of communication to pass on techniques to new generations.
The aerobic terrestrial
An environment enriched with oxygen, supportive of both respiration and combustion
