In the election of 1860 there was 4 candidates. Abraham Lincoln who won the election because he was the only republican to run for president. The other three candidates were democrats so people had a variety to choose from.

The Emancipation Proclamation is an agreement that Abraham Lincoln made which was to free all slaves from rebellious states. To sum it up, it's basically a contract that states that slaves shall be free from and slave state that have the hostaged.
