Presentation of Practice
Whole Practice
Practicing the skill in its entirety, from start to finish. It promotes understanding, establishes links between sub-routines and creates fluency.
Practicing skills as a whole is required when a skill is difficult to break down, or difficult to develop links to sub-routines.
It promotes understanding of the whole skill and develops fluency to jerky, uncoordinated movements.
Advantages
Creates an image that can be stored in the long term memory, this is a motor programme.

Part Practice
The parts of skill are practiced in isolation. Useful for complex and serial skills to focus on specific elements.

Disadvantages
The transfer of the skills from parts, to a whole may not be effective and it may also reduce the kinaesthetic awareness (feel) for the full skill.
