Definition
Occur in response to infection, allergies, autoimmune disorders, irritation, injury, or trauma to the eyes, eyelids, or surrounding tissues. Different parts of the eye can be affected, depending on the cause of the inflammation.

Use a clean towel and washcloth daily
Throw away your eye cosmetics, such as mascara.
Don't share towels or washcloths.
Don't share eye cosmetics or personal eye care items.

Symptoms
floaters — spots in the eye that look like tiny rods or chains of transparent bubbles floating around in the field of vision
general vision problems, including blurred or cloudy vision
photophobia, an abnormal sensitivity to light
eye pain and redness

Treatment
oral steroids in the form of pills
injected steroids given either around or in the eye
a surgical implant that provides small doses of steroids over time
Prevention
People living with an underlying condition, such as rheumatoid arthritis or MS, can help prevent uveitis by following their treatment plans and keeping their condition in remission.

Pathophysiology
Eye inflammation due to contiguous granulomatous sinus disease (nasolacrimal duct obstruction, proptosis, and ocular muscle or optic nerve involvement) or due to focal vasculitis (conjunctivitis, episcleritis, scleritis, corneoscleral ulceration, uveitis, and granulomatous vasculitis of the retina and optic nerve).
