Pharyngitis
Definition
Pain or irritation in the throat that can occur with or without swallowing, often accompanies infections such as cold or flu

Measles
A denovirus which is one of the causes of the common cold
Chicken pox
Croup
Whooping cough
Group A streptococcus
Symptoms
Swollen lymph nodes
Difficulty swallowing
Muscle aches
Runny nose
Body aches
Fatigue
Chills and fever
Diagnosis
Physical examination
Throat culture
Blood tests
Treatment and management
Amoxicillin
Penicillin
Drink plenty of fluids
Gargle with warm water and salt
Use humidifiers
Ibuprofen (Advil) and throat lozenges
Prevention
Avoid sharing food, drinks and utensils
Avoid individuals who are sick
Wash hands regularly
Use alcohol based hand sanitizers
Avoid smoking and inhaling smoke
Pathophysiology
Pharyngitis is the inflammation of the mucous membranes of the oropharynx. In most cases, it is caused by an infection, either bacterial or viral. Other less common causes of pharyngitis include allergies, trauma, cancer, reflux, and certain toxins.
