CEREBROVASCULAR DISEASE
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Deprivation of oxygen to the brain cells which is due to blood flow impairment leading to their reduced function and may die if the circulation is not restored.
DEFINITION
It refers to a functional abnormality of the nervous system that is caused by an interference with the cerebral blood supply.
This results in the patient having a stroke or what is commonly known as a cerebrovascular accident.
CLINICAL MANIFESTATION
HCU being confused, aphasia, visual disturbances

NURSING MANAGEMENT
Fluids for this patient should be balanced, just like ekectrolytes and acid-base, their blood glucose should be monitored.
For this patient support is required, pt is to be assisted with hygiene, airway, breathing and circulation must be secured and supported if the patient is comatose.
Aspiration, pneumonia should be closely monitored for this patient.

Anxiety and depression are to be addressed, this patient will need support and understanding, especially if the stroke was very severe and lead to paralysis.
Ensure the patient receives rehabilitation so that they can go back to their normal routine and environment.

COMPLICATIONS
Patient may suffer from pneumonia, urinary tract infection and possibly deep vein thrombosis.

Major neurological deterioration due to the continuation of the clot or renewed intracerebral bleeding.
