Am infection that affects the mastoid bone, located behind the ear.
Causes

A growing collection of skin cells called cholesteatoma, may block drainage of the ear.
Symptoms

bacteria spread from the middle ear to the mastoid air cells, where the inflammation causes damage to the bony structures.
