Pathophysiology
Otosclerosis is a localized bone remodeling process that occurs in the vicinity of the otic capsule. The otic capsule and the ossicles form from cartilaginous anlage by endochondral calcification; the calcification process is complete by age 1 year. Once calcified, the otic capsule exhibits little remodeling.
