Definition
Infection of the middle ear, occurs when the area behind the ear drum called middle ear becomes inflamed and infected

Diagnosis
Otoscope to detect redness, swelling, blood, pus, air bubbles, fluid in the middle ear and perforated ear drum

Apply warm, moist wash cloth over the infection

Pathophysiology
Acute purulent otitis media (APOM) is characterized by edema and hyperemia of the subepithelial space, which is followed by the infiltration of polymorphonuclear (PMN) leukocytes. As the inflammatory process progresses, there is mucosal metaplasia and the formation of granulation tissue.
