Types of Chemical reactions - Lamar Alkahtani
Synthesis
A synthesis reaction occurs when two or more reactants combine to form a single product
Example: Na + Cl → NaCl
Decomposition
A decomposition reaction is when one compound breaks down and forms two or more substances
H2O → H2 + O2
Combustion
Combustion is a chemical reaction in which a substance combines with oxygen and releases energy
CH4 + 2O2 → CO2 + 2H2O
Replacement
An atom or group of atoms replaces part of a compound
Single replacement
In a single-replacement reaction, one element replaces another element in a compound
Double replacement
In a double-replacement reaction, the negative ions in two compounds switch places, forming two new compounds
