Observations - Types of Assessment
What does it involve?
Gathering, recording, interpreting, using, and reporting information
about a child’s progress and achievement in developing knowledge, skills and attitudes.
Assessment goes beyond testing.
Includes the daily interactions and includes conversations, observations and actions.
How to SEE children’s learning
Meaningful assessment reflects a broad holistic picture of the child’s unique learning dispositions, skills, attitudes, knowledge and understanding.
Ongoing observation of children’s performance whilst engaged in meaningful activities – builds a reliable picture of what the child can actually do.
A child-centred curriculum and meaningful assessment is an inseparable process
Assessment is a natural part of the EYPs daily observations of and interactions with the child in a variety of different contexts and learning situations.
Assessment
Through assessment the practitioner constructs a comprehensive picture of the short-term and long-term needs of the child and plans future work accordingly
Using assessment information in these ways, the practitioner supports and extends the child’s learning.
