How did the conflict begin?
The USSR was divided in 1991, and the Republic of Ukraine became an independent nation
Revolution movement in 2014, protests in Ukraine sparked a rivalry between the two.
Putin considers Ukrane and Russia as one nation, so he wants to annex Ukraine to Russian territory
Ukraine wants to join the NATO for protection but Russia doesn't want them to
Putin attacked bordering cities with great economic importance for Ukraine.
Russia took advantage of two breakaway regions of Ukraine called Donetsk and Lugansk to invade the country.
These separatist regions were recognized as independent nations by Russia and supported with troops.
How both countries are being affected?
Ukraine
A numerous amount of people has fled the country
Ukraine is facing a big economic crisis, with limited money destined to the war
Unemployment rates have increased
As a big exporters of corn, their incomes by exporting are falling down
Russia
Russia is receiving several economic sanctions from different countries and organizations
Many business and services have left the country
Russian citizens have positioned against Putin, generating protests
Is it possible to sign a peace deal?
Yes, as long as both sides agree with the deal
The deal should cover territorial distribution and military aspects
The discussion should be alongside the UNSC
Misuse of force shall be recognized by Russia
How does this crisis affect the rest of the world?
Inflation
Russia and Ukraine are gas and natural oil producers, so with the start of the war the prices increased hugely
The prices of food like wheat, produced in Ukraine, and energy, produced in Russia, have been the most affected.
This caused an increase in transportation prices and therefore inflation
Migration
People from Russia and Ukraine are migrating to countries surrounding them.
Trading
Most countries in Europe are suffering from not being able to trade with neither Ukraine or Russia.
The recovery from the pandemic has been slowed.
What are our predictions?
Our prediction is that the war will continue and the conflict will get bigger
If our prediction is right, Putin may have already started WWIII
Other countries will not risk attacking directly to Russia in case it expands the conflict.
Other possible outcomes:
Ukraine gets divided because of the radically different parties
Russia eventually fully secures Ukraine and the physical attacks partially stop
