They are unique to living things. Its main element is carbon (C).
Lipids
They store energy for future needs
Examples:
fats, waxes, cholesterol
Proteins
They form structures such as hair, skin and muscles.
Examples:
haemoglobin, collagen, keratin
Carbohydrates
They provide instant energy for our organisms
Examples:
Glucose, lactose, sucrose
Nucleic acids
They contain an individual's genetic information. This information is responsable for the funtioning of every cell.
Examples:
DNA, RNA
Inorganic
Also found non-living things. Its mains element is not carbon (C).
Mineral salts
They participate in the formation of ligid structure (bones) which organisms have, and in important cellular processes.
Examples:
calcuim carbonate, calcuim phosphate
Water
It is involved in many different funtions sch as thermol regulation and the transport of substances.
Biomolecules are what living things are made of.
