SPORTS & PHYSICAL PROWESS: Jeffery and Warwick playing cricket. Warwick is very aggressive when playing, he is also competetive as Jeffery is better than him.
CIGARETTES & ALCOHOL: Growing up fast as Jasper is either smoking or drinking through out the book, generally women are not seen smoking and it is a "man's hobby"
CIGARETTES & ALCOHOL: Charlie growing up becoming more adultlike to seem and act cool as Jasper smoked and drank alcohol frequently. Charlie merges into the coming of age idea as he realises how he feels around Eliza and the affect she has on his mind and feelings.

DEAD BODY: Laura Wishart hanging from the tree, Charlie had to keep quiet as it seemed cool and made him more "grown up" in a sense being selfish he hadn't told anyone.

RACISM: The constant picking on Jeffery Lu and his family because he is a different race (Vietnamese) Jeffery plays cricket as he just wants to fit in with the communtiy
HYPOCRISY: the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case.

STEALING: Warwick stealing peaches form Mad Jack Lionel's yard showing masculinity as the more peaches you steal the more courages and brave you are seen to be.
BULLYING: Warwick bullying Jeffery as he is trying to hide his inescurities , he has no regard for intelligance and uses bullying to show that. Jeffery get's bullied throughout the book as he is a different race almost making him a target.

HOT, THICK HEAT, FEELS LIKE THE EARTH'S CORE, TOO HOT, ELEMENT OF DECAY: LINKS TO OPPRESSION (HEAT OPPRESSION), RACIAL OPPRESSION, CHARLIE FEELS LIKE AN OUTSIDER.

PETE WISHART: He is seen as someone you can trust. Power can be manipulated by Authorities to their benefit.
WARWICK TRENT: Sporting and physical prowess leads to egotistical behaviour towards Jeffery Lu causing Warwick to come off as racist.
RUTH BUCTIN: Women are forced to follow traditonal values of the 1960's. Ruth does not want to follow this but still goes back to the kitchen as if she were a typical housewife.
JASPER JONES: The idea that Indigenous poeple are taken advantage of to be viewed as a negative stereotype. RACISM
