Systems
Human Settlements
They have means of local governance, urban areas and rural areas.
-
They also connect with other communities and may be governed by larger bodies, such as a state or national government.
Human settlements include all the other systems which work together to meet the wants and needs of the individuals and the entire community.

Environment
All human systems are dependent on natural systems. We are an important part of the ecosystems we live in.
We also influence the natural systems around us. Sometimes, we do this intentionally.
Sometimes, human activity has unintended consequences.
We pollute the air and the water. We reduce habitat and cause the extinction of species. We alter the natural systems of entire regions through deforestation.

Transportation Systems
Transportation systems are an interconnected network of roads, trains, air travel, shipping routes and cycling routes.
-
Human settlements are dependent on transportation systems in order to travel within the community and to other communities. They are also dependent on the transportation system in order to import and export goods. They rely on communication systems to coordinate travel and to make travel safer.
Energy
-
Windmills, hydroelectric dams, nuclear power plants, oil wells, etc.
Ships and trucks carry oil, power lines move electricity and gas lines move gas.
Economic Infrastructure
-
This includes transportation systems, communication systems, energy systems, water and sanitation.
