GLAUCOMA
DEFINITION
It the group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve leading to blindness
NURSING CARE PLAN
Encourage the patient to exercise safely
Tell the patient to limits caffeine
Give medication and tell the latient to keep on taking them as prescribed by the doctor
The the patient to eat healthy
CLINICAL MANIFESTATION
Eye pains
Halos around light
Blurred vision
Eye redness
Tunnel vision in the advanced stages
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
The level of intraocular pressure is related to retina ganglion cell death
Intraocular pressure cause mechanical stress and strain on the posterior structures of the eye notably the lamina cribrosa and adjacent tissues
RETINAL DETACHMENT
DEFINITION
An emergency when part of the eye(retina) pulls away from supportive tissue
NURSING CARE PLAN
Wash the patient's face with antibacterial solition
Tell a patient not to touch the eyes to avoid contamination
Give medication as prescribed by the doctor
Patch both eyes
CLINICAL MANIFESTATION
Central visual loss
The impression that the veil or curtain was drawn over the field of vision
Very brief flashes of light in the extreme peripheral part of vision
A sudden dramatic increase in the number of floaters
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Sub-retinak fluid accumulates between the neurosensory retina and the retinal pigment epithelium
Associate with posterior vitreous detachment or trauma
