Nursing interventions :
Assess client’s description and frequency of pain; Use a pain rating scale. Observe if the infant is tugging or rubbing an ear.

encourage a patient to remove anything from your affected ear that may cause an allergic reaction, such as hearing aids, earplugs and earrings

gently remove any discharge, earwax or debris from your outerear using a twist of cotton wool
warm the ear drops by holding them in your hands for a fewminutes, as cold ear drops can make you feel dizzy

infection deeper in the ear can sometimes lead to otitis externa
seborrhoeic dermatitis – a common skin condition where the naturally greasy areas of your skin become irritated and inflamed, which can sometimes affect the ears

Pathophysiology
Gross pathology for otitis externa will include erythema of the ear canal, along with eczema-like scaly, shedding of the skin. It also includes visible ear canal swelling, as well as potentially cellulitis of the pinna and otorrhea
Otitis externa develops when the external ear canal becomes susceptible to infection due to a variety of causes.
