Congenital ptosis
Signs and symptoms
Drooping eyelid, commonly in upper eyelid
Crossed eye
Double vision
Tilting head back in order to see
Eye and forehead fatigue
Difficulty In closing the eye or blinking
Dry or watery eye
Caused
Idiopathic
Autosomal dominant inheritance
Genetics or chromosomal defects
A problem with the muscle that raises the eyelids
A nerve problem in the eyelids can also cause it to droop
Ptosis can occur due to other conditions
Management
Congenital ptosis can be corrected by three operative procedures:
Levator resection by the skin approach
Levator resection by the conjunctival approach
Fasanella's- servant procedure
Eyebrow inspection of the eyelids
Definition
Is the presence of a droopy eyelid or eyelids since birth
The ptosis maybe not be noticable after birth but is usually noticable within few months if birth.
It can be unilateral or bilateral
Clinical manifestations
Abnormal drooping of the upper eyelid
Reduction of the vertical palpebral fissure
