Nursing care plan
Assessment
Assess airway for patency, maintaining patent airway is always the first priority, especially in cases like trauma, acute neurological decompensation, or cardiac arrest.
-
Expected outcomes
Patient is expected to maintain clear, open airway as evidence by normal breath sounds
-
Nursing interventions
Respond quickly to avoid complications such as non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema and respiratory arrest

Pathophysiology
Involves the involuntary and forceful contraction of laryngeal muscles, which results from the depolarization of the superior laryngeal nerve.
Contraction of the laryngeal muscles results in vocal cord adduction, complete airway obstruction, and impaired ventilation.
Defination
A laryngospasm is a muscle spasm in the vocal cords, sometimes called a laryngeal spasm.
