Causes
Allergic rhinitis
Bacteria

Repeated acute infections or continue exposure to allergens
Nursing care plan
Encourage fluid and take to prevent possible dehydration
Prescribed antibiotics can be administered to manage infection
Recommend steam inhalations three to four times a day to loosen secretions and facilitate drainage
Nasal sprays drops and antihistanics can be prescribed to reduce nasal oedema
A humidifier will prevent nasal crusting and moisten secretions
Local heat can be applied on the nose to reduce oedema and pain
Pathophysiology
All forms of rhinitis cause sneezing nasal discharge with nasal congestion and headache. Acute rhinitis usually last 5 to 7 days with or without treatment. Secondary invasion by bacteria may complicate the cold causing pneumonia bronchitis sinusitis or otitis media.
