Inadequate drainage through the eustachian tube, especially where upper respiratory infection are a current factor

In children, oral antibiotics may be prescribed for five days with a follow up after two weeks
If there is no improvement, the patient should be transferred for further management
Definition
Acute otitis media become chronic if the infection has not cleared and continue for more than two weeks
Otorrhea indicates eardrum perforation with a potential for serious complications such as deafness, mastoiditis, cholesteatoma, brain absess or meningitis
