Defination
it is the infection and inflamation of the nasal mucosa, it may present acute or chronic. it is also known as cold or coryza
Pathophysiology
Rhinitis cause sneezing ,nasal discharge with nasal congestion and headache.It usually last for 5-7 days with or with.out treatment.Nasal discharge is usually watery at first and become mucoid later. Allergic rhinitis occurs often as seasonal disorder, irritation of the conjuctiva may be seen which causes tearing, itching and oedema of the eyelids, headache may be persistent

NURSING MANAGEMENT
Patient is usually seen at primary health center or outpatient department in hospital, Nursing care is directed towards patient teaching and home care.Treatment is symptomatic
Health education
Educate the patient that acute rhinitis is self limitting and may last about 7 days, it is contagious for the first two or three days hence the patient should use a tissue paper to sneeze which will then be disposed hygienically.Patient should blow the nose clean before administering nasal congestant drops and sprays and any other instillations
