CERUMEN IMPERFECTION
DEFINITION
It a condition in which earwax has become tightly packed in the external ear canal to the point that the canal is blocked
NURSING CARE PLAN
Give guidance on the correct instillation of ear drops to alleviate the issues
Educate a patient not to clean the ear with cotton wool buds for it impact the wax further
Assess the tympanic membrane perforation
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Ear pain
Bleeding from the ear
Dizziness
Itching
Tinnitus which is a ringing or buzzing in the ear
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Cerumen is the most common cause of an impaired canal
Acanal can also become impaired as a result of foreign bodies that can enter or be placed in the external ear canal
ORTITIS EXTERNAL
DEFINITION
It an infection of the ear canal, the tube leading from the outside opening of the ear in towards the ear drum
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
A discharge of liquid or pus from the ear
Purulent exudate common
Some degree of temporary hearing loss
Ear canal erythema and edema
NURSING CARE PLAN
Dry swibbing to move out wax from the ear
Remove any discharge gently
Warm the ear drops before using it for cold ear drop causes dizziness
Educate the patient avoiding getting affected ear wet
Give antibiotic ear drops to treat bacteria
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Is a painful condition caused when irritating or infective agenta come into contact with the skin of the external ear
The result is either an allergic respinse or inflammation with or without infection
An inflammation and infection of the external auditory canal
EAR ABSCESS OR FUNCULOSI
DEFINITION
It is a localised form of infection that usually occurs following the infection of a hair follicle
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Severe pains and hearing loss
Swollen lymph nodes
Fatigue
Tender, warm and very painful
May experience fever
NURSING CARE PLAN
Give medication as prescribed by the doctor
Care for a wound
Relieve anxiety by educating the patient about the condition and it outcomes
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
A boil also called a furuncle is a deep folliculitis, infection of the hair follicle
It is commonly caused by the infection by the bacterium staphylococcus aureus, resulting in a painful swollen area on the skin caused by an accumulation of pus and dead tissue

DEFINITION
It the inflammation of the perichondrium
