Trachoma
Definition
Bacterial infection resulting in inflamed granulation in the inner surface of the eyes
Phathophysiology
-inflammation from active trachoma infection
-eyelashes turn in and rub on the cornea producing and ulceration, scarirng and blindness
-certain types of chlamydia
-bacterium chlamydia trachomatis
Clinical manifestations
-vision loss
-swelling of the eyelid
-mild itching and irritation of the eyes and eyelids
-pus and mucus discharge from the eyes
-painful eyes
Management
-administer antibiotics to treat infected eyes
-eye ointment tetracycline
-give health education about proper eye hygiene
-relieve pain by giving analgesics
Conjuvitis
Definition
Inflammation or irritation of the conjunctiva
Phathophysiology
-the surface tissue of the eye and ocular adnera are colonized by the normal flora such as streptococci and corynebacteria
alterrations in the defense in bacterial titor or species of bacteria can lead to clinical infection
-alterations can result from external contamination like swimming or contact lens wear
-allergies
-chemicals that can be in the workplace
-bacterial infection
Clinical manifestations
-pink or red eyes
water thick discharge
-abnormal amount of tears
inching eyes
Management
-for bacterial conjuctivis give antibiotics
-eye drops
-antihistamine for allergic conjunctivis
-health education about allergies and dangers of sharing bath towels
-relief pain with analgesics
-antiviral agents for viral infection
-discharging eyes shall be cleaned regularly in a proper hygienic way
Uveitis :
Definition
Inflammation of the middle layer uvea
Phathophysiology
-inflammation of the uvea
-inflammatory response mechanism results in vasodilation
Increased vascular permeability and chemotaxis of inflammatory cells in the eyes
it can be genetic traumatic or infectious mechanism

Clinical manifestations
-photophobia
pain in the eyes
-blurry vision
redness of the eye
Management
-administration of anti-inflammatory drugs like corticosteroids or eyedrops
give specific anti-infective agents or ocular anti-inflammatory injections
-health education about allergies
Analgesics for pain
