Refining Celanese's Decentralized Approach
Purpose
Celanese requires more standardization as it has a decentralized approach that was not working in the companies favor. Celanese needs to refine their decentralized approach or lean towards a more centralized approach.
This new policy will ensure there is good communication and effective change within the company.
By creating an effective decentralized approach within the companies small unit leaders are able to effectively lead their teams without having to constantly have their actions be reviewed by someone in a corporate position. This both inspires and motivates the IT staff to do quality work.
Stakeholders
CIO
With more standardization and centralized approach the CIO will have more confidence in the abilities of his staff to accomplish projects and will not need loads of evidence to prove a project is worth doing.
IT Staff
IT staff will have clearer guidelines and regulations which will enable easier project completion and communication with other IT departments.
Non IT Celanese Staff
Non IT staff will see an increase in IT's ability to complete projects which will then in turn allow them to work more effectively as well.
Echelon First Correspondent
A EF representative will be with Celanese as it works through developing its new policies. This individual will help to ensure the success of the company in the future.
Implementation
Training
For this new approach to work IT staff, small team managers, and corporate staff must be trained on how to lead and manage tasks in an effective manner.
All employees within the Celanese IT department will attend leadership and management seminars given by Echelon Front. These seminars and coaching will enable leaders to make effective decisions without having to constantly go through different levels for approval.
With this type of training the IT staff will be able to have an effective decentralized approach towards their projects. They will be more self reliant and can communicate effectively with one another.
These workshops will only take 1-2 days to attend. From there Celanese staff will be working with representatives from Echelon Front to ensure that they are on the right track and are accomplishing tasks in an effective manner.
Establishing baseline standard operating procedures.
Celanese will go back and redo its standard operating procedures for projects. These standard operating procedures will emphasize simplicity and flexibility within projects that enable employees to make sound decisions independently. These SOPs will also have instructions on what to do if certain situations arise while conducting these projects.
This process will take 3 months. This is a short timeline so that Celanese can focus on the truly important SOPs and trim away all of the non essential ones.
