People aren't who they say they are
Obsessive Person
Jay Gatz was a young soldier who fell in love with Daisy. After the war, he became a rich and powerful criminal (which he hid) and became Jay "Gatsby". He bought an expensive house and things and threw massive parties in hopes of getting Daisy's attention. He was still in love with that person he met years ago not the person Daisy is now. This is Gatsby's driving force, his only purpose in life is to get Daisy back. This obsession is arguably why he got Myrtle and Himself along with George, Killed.
George Wilson was also obsessed with the security of Myrtle that he took it so far as to locking her in a room for days until they could move out of the valley of ashes.
Jealousy and Stressr
Daisy was a young girl who fell in love with Jay Gatz. After the war, she married Tom and seemed to be an ignorant rich girl. Nearing the end of the novel, out of jealousy or stress of the conflict between her husband, Tom, and Gatsby. she became a murderer who got away with it.
Myrtle got herself killed because of the stress of being locked in a room
Judgments / Liars
Nick Caraway said that he didn't believe in judgments and said that he was very honest. before Gatsby is murdered, Nick tells him that he is "worth the whole damn bunch put together"(Fitzgerald 118). clearly, this is a judgment towards Daisy, Tom and Jordan as well as a judgment towards Gatsby and Nick himself in a way. Since Nick sort of liked Gatsby and felt sorry for him, he may have switched the story up a bit to make it seem like Gatsby is the only victim so based on this I can't say he is honest or reliable.
Tom seemed to have lied about who was driving the car because he and Daisy were having a conversation late at night after the incident
Tom is also a racist and wants to sound intelligent
Murder/Revenge
George Wilson was a poor and "dumb" man. He is a mechanic in the valley of ashes. he seemed to be a humble and easy-going man until he found out that Myrtle was having an affair with another man. This changed him for the worse, he ended up locking myrtle upstairs in a room. this eventually lead to Myrtles death, Gatsby's death and George's Death.
Daisy killed Myrtle. We can argue that maybe she was calling out toms name when running on the road. Daisy would connect the dots and hit her with the care. this seemed to be out of Jealousy and revenge
Fake People / Fake Love
All the guests at Gatsby's parties all had the time of their lives. They "Loved" these parties and wanted to get to know the host. When Gatsby is murdered and accused of killing Myrtle Wilson, no one cared. No one even showed up to his funeral besides Nick, Gatsby's dad, a postman, Owl Eyes and a few servants.
Daisy and Tom took off and left everyone behind
Lust/Money Love
Myrtle Wilson seemed like a typical woman during that time but, She was having an affair with Tom Buchanan. When her husband, George, found out that she was having an affair with someone (he didn't know who exactly) he locked her upstairs in a room until they could move away. Myrtles actions and lust for money eventually got 3 people killed including herself.
Daisy married Tom because of his money.
