DDoS
Loss of access for customers, lost revenue, reduced productivity, reputational damage.
Brute Force
Generating repeated password attempts to gain unauthorised access to a system. Theft and/or disclosure of corporate data.
Malware
Can delete, corrupt or encrypt files. Can cause computers to crash, reboot or slow down. Reducing internet connection speeds. Logging keyboard inputs.
Phishing
Obtaining an individual's financial details to withdraw money, make fraudulent purchases, open new bank or card accounts, cash illegitimate cheques and to gain access to login data.

Prevention
Malware
Strong security software (firewall, spam filter, antivirus, anti-spyware). Enabling OS and security software updates. Staff training around email attachments and downloads. Regular data backups.
Phishing
Strong security software. Staff training around spotting fake emails and websites, not disclosing personal or corporate information and disabling browser popups.
Brute force
Network lockout policy - accounts lock after a certain number of failed login attempts. Progressive delays. Staff training around effective passwords with symbols, letters, numbers, and mixed case. Challenge response - e.g, reCAPTCHA

Strong firewall. Packet filters. Web server configuration. Auditing, logging and monitoring systems.
Data interception
Encryption. Virtual networks. Staff training around passwords, locking computers, logging off and portable media. Investigating network vulnerabilities.
