Disorders of the Inner Ear
Menieres disease
Definition
Labyrinth of the ear
Phathophysiology
The underlying mechanism is believed to be distortion of the membranous labyrinth resulting from overaccumulation of endolymph.
Clinical manifestations
-hearing loss
vertigo
Tinnitus
-Aural fullness
Management
reduce pain by analgesics
-prevent infection
endolymphatic sac surgery
,- reduce salt intake
-Use of dueretics
Hearing loss
Definition
Impaired hearing can be congenital it depends on affected part of the ear and the cause . It can be conductive where mechanisms to transmit sound waves are defective such as in impacted cerumen , a perforated tympanic membrane, non -oscillation of the ossicles during infection or joint stiffness in arthritis.
Clinical manifestations
-increased inability to hear
trauma to the ear
Causes
abnormal bone growth
-congenital
& Conductive
damage to the inner ear
Management
-administer antibiotics
give analgesics
-refer to audiology
-ossicular reconstruction
stapedectomy
-ear care And cleaning
Phathophysiology
-sound transmission from the outer ear to the brain suffers a disruption. The disruption can happen at any stage, either before or after the cochlea, and the hearing loss is conductive or sensorineural, respectively.
